Maquet Educational Pavilion

Practical Hands-On Vascular Surgery Workshops

At this year's Charing Cross International symposium the Maquet Educational Pavilion will be hosting two three day workshops provided by Vascular International who have run the European Vascular Workshops in Pontresina for over twenty years.

The European Vascular Workshop has become the leading practical hands-on training and education in open vascular surgical and endovascular techniques in Europe. These workshops have proved to be a very effective postgraduate training method both for beginners and advanced vascular surgeons, the techniques that are used form part of the Fellowship of the European Board of Vascular Surgery (FEBVS) exam. The success of these European Vascular Workshops is in large part due to the importance of practical training on the latest models and simulation devices combined with intensive supervision by the expert team of Vascular International tutors.

The basic and masterclass workshops provide excellent hands-on experience on pulsatile realistic models to perform open straight forward and complex aortic repair, carotid endarterectomy and distal bypass surgery. The close interaction between tutor and trainee guarantees an intensive learning process. Also the instruments, lighting and video relay are sophisticated. There is a rotating programme (4 different work stations) both in basic course and masterclass, you will operate in pairs of two or three using original vascular grafts and sutures. The training atmosphere is relaxed and in-depth discussion is encouraged. This year Vascular International will provide two separate workshops over 3 separate days in the Maquet Educational Pavilion at this year's Charing Cross International Symposium. The Masterclass Workshop is for more advanced trainees and the Basic Workshop is for more straightforward procedures.
