CX 2023: 45 Years of Looking Forward

  • 1978: Founded in 1978, the Charing Cross Symposium has gone on to become the leading global vascular symposium.

First held at the Drew Lecture Theatre of the Charing cross Hospital Medical School, CX provides first-class Education, Innovation and Evidence presented by world-leading experts.

  • 1987: Dr. Michael DeBakey, vascular pioneer, called upon the presidents of vascular meetings in Europe to create the foundation of the European Society for Vascular Surgery (ESVS).

  • 1990: At CX 1990, Julio Palmaz of Argentina announced his ‘stent graft concept’ which had been used to correct an abdominal aortic aneurysm (AAA).

Fun Fact: This was the first news in Europe of EVAR.

  • 2010: The EVAR trials 10-year results are presented at CX and simultaneously published in the New England Journal of Medicine. 
  • 2011: Andres Schanzer and Roy Greenberg’s study on the importance of adhering to IFU’s for EVAR is presented at CX and published in Circulation. 
  • 2015: Gunnar Tepe presents the one-year results from the IN.PACT SFA randomised trial.
  • 2016: The EVAR Trials 15-year results are presented at CX by Professor Roger Greenhalgh.
  • 2018: Alun Davies presented results from the Early Venous Reflux Ablation (EVRA) trial for the first time.
  • 2020: Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, CX pivoted to a digital event to meet the changing needs of the vascular and endovascular meeting attendees.

2020 also saw the launch of CX’s Aortic Meeting – CX Aortic Vienna – which brings together the cardiac and vascular communities.

  • 2023: Now celebrating its 45th year – CX welcomes delegates in both an in-person and virtual format from 80+ countries.
